• Domestic legal pressure: Under the Government’s roadmap, Vietnam’s carbon market begins its pilot phase in 2025 and will operate officially in 2029. Many businesses on the mandatory list under Decree No. 06/2022/ND-CP are under pressure to complete their emissions reports.
• Global trade barriers: Exporters seeking to enter European or US markets must overcome strict barriers such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
• Shortage of specialist staff: Most corporate staff are still unclear about the difference between emission allowances and carbon credits, and struggle with how to collect data and calculate emissions (Scope 1, 2, 3).
The course provides a structured pathway from the legal foundation to practical project execution skills:
1. Legal foundation and Technical standards
• A comprehensive update on the latest legal documents in Vietnam (Decree No. 06/2022/ND-CP, Decision No. 01/2022/QD-TTg).
• Detailed guidance on the international technical standard ISO 14064 (Parts 1, 2, 3) on the quantification, reporting and verification of greenhouse gases.
• Methods for collecting activity data and calculating emissions according to IPCC guidelines.
2. Conducting a Greenhouse Gas Inventory & Reporting
• Techniques for identifying emission sources and defining organisational boundaries (Scope 1, Scope 2, Scope 3).
• Building a complete greenhouse gas report structure (5 main chapters) in line with the State Securities Commission’s guidance.
• Setting up a data management system and transparent record-keeping for independent inspections and verification.
3. The Carbon Credit Market & Net Zero Roadmap
• Clearly distinguish the two types of commodities: Emission allowances and Carbon credits.
• Understand how the carbon exchange in Vietnam operates and common international exchange mechanisms (CDM, JCM, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement).
• Understand the difference between Carbon Neutral and Net Zero, along with the 5 steps for achieving targets under the international SBTi standard.
• For individuals: Learners gain hands-on capability to set up an organisation-level GHG inventory system and can confidently take on roles as ESG experts, greenhouse gas verifiers, or carbon credit project consultants at large corporations.
• For businesses: Train in-house teams to prepare emissions reports proactively, comply with environmental regulations, optimise costs and be ready to trade on the carbon exchange to create new sources of finance.
